Laser hair removal is something that I’ve always wanted to do. So you can imagine my excitement when the opportunity to finally get it done fell into my lap. Evliss Clinic are specialist in laser hair removal. The clinic pride themselves on delivering expert care using the world’s finest brands. I chose to do two laser hair removal treatments on my underarm and lower legs. Later in the year I plan to do my bikini area. Now the reason I chose my underarms is because it’s a problem area for me. I’m prone to ingrown hairs and discoloration in this area. I’m actually very self conscious about it and I have been for as long as I can remember. I’ve put laser hair removal off for the longest time so I was happy to finally get the process started.
Before my treatment I was given a full consultation. Evliss clinic staff asked me key questions about myself and skin care/health history. This was great because I had the opportunity to ask some of my own questions. I was mainly concerned about side effects on blacks kin and after care tips. Once I felt comfortable to go ahead I then signed my named on the dotted line.
Before the treatment I was given some protective goggles to wear. I couldn’t see anything and it made me slightly uncomfortable. It took me a while to actually settle down because I couldn’t see what was going down. Despite this the specialist got started on my underarms. A cooling gel was applied to the area and my god it was freezing cold and it made me squeal. I’m one of those people who have very sensitive skin so my reaction to the gel wasn’t a surprise to me. Once the actual laser touched my skin for the first time though I actually lost it.
The laser stung for about two seconds but in my mind it felt much longer then that. After a while I just got used to the quick stinging sensation. The next phase of the treatment was my lower legs and this part didn’t take very long to do. In total I believe the entire process took about 30minutes to complete. It was practically over in the blink of an eye. Both my underarms and certain parts of my leg felt very tender immediately afterwards. Apparently this was normal stuff and I was told not to worry. So I decided to keep my cool and got myself together for the post treatment chat.
I was advised of the following……
- Redness & Bumps are normal
- Gently cleanse the treated areas
- Do not wax, pluck or otherwise remove the hair by force, shaving is allowed
- Dead hairs will begin to shed 5-30 days after your treatment
- Exfoliate to speed up hair shedding
- Avoid the sun for 7 days after the procedure.
- Do not pick/scratch/wax/thread/tweeze the area
- Book my next session in 6 weeks time
- Light bruising is normal on dark skin1]
- If a blister appears contact your provider for direction, but in most cases you may apply an antibiotic ointment to the area until healed
A few days after the treatment I did notice some bumps on my underarm. The area was ore for about 3 days. I wasn’t alarmed because I was told to expect this. My underarm hair grows back pretty fast anyway so I wasn’t expecting them to completely go away after one session. As for my legs I noticed some light bruisings from the laser itself. To be honest this annoyed me because my legs are practically bruise free. But as my skin is super sensitive and I bruise easily, I should have avoided my leg area all together. So as a result I’ve decided to continue with my laser treats on my underarms only.
