5 Weekend Getaway ideas; The Europe Edition
5 Weekend Getaway ideas; The Europe Edition
Weekend getaways are the next best thing since sliced bread. Oddly enough most people are not too fond of them, mainly because they are short and sweet. But that is the sole purpose as they are supposed to be just that. Weekend getaways are like mini power trips that recharge your batteries throughout the year. Plus if you manage to secure one for a good price then that is even more of a bargain.
I am not sure what your 2019 travel plans are but I encourage you to put a few weekend getaways to Europe in your calendar. Reason being they don’t eat up your annual leave, you could go with friends or embark on some solo travelling. I have spent weekends away in great countries like Morocco, France and Berlin. Every country came with a different experience and I loved it. Contrary to popular belief, European countries have a lot to offer, especially for a weekend getaway.
Below is a list of amazing European cities you should visit in 2019 in THANK ME LATER 🙂
1. Paris
The fact that you can jump on a train to Paris from London and get to Paris in just under 3 hours is the number one reason why you should book. The Eurostar regularly have great deals going for return tickets starting from as little as £29. You could jump on a morning train into Paris, drop your bags at your accommodation and hit up some of the most iconic attractions the city has to offer.
The Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Moulin Rouge and the list goes on. There are so many great things to do in Paris and even if you are not big on doing anything too tourist like, I guarantee that you will find something to keep you occupied. Every district across Paris offers visitors something different and this to me is what makes the city much more appealing.
2. Amsterdam
The great city of Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands, some would even say it is the heart and soul of the country. It is very possible that you could get the most out of Amsterdam during a weekend getaway, you would just have to use your time wisely. The artistic heritage in Amsterdam is very rich, to get a taste of this you could visit the various museums, galleries and exhibitions plastered throughout the city. Some of which include the Van Gogh museum, Rijksmuseum, Anne Franks house and so much more.
Amsterdam really has a lot to offer just like Paris, there is no way you could get bored. Take a cruise along the canal or hit up the infamous Red Light district. I would even encourage you to check out Amsterdam’s nightlife because it has so much variety.
3. Milan
Located in the northern region of Italy, is the city of Milan known globally for its reputation in fashion and design. I guess it is safe to say that Milan holds the title for being the boujee part of Italy. The place is filled with amazing architecture, top-notch restaurants and all things high fashion.
A weekend getaway to Milan could literally be anything that you want it to be. Milan has a lot of history and popular attractions such as visit one of the most iconic cathedrals in the world Duomo di Milano or you could enjoy a wild shopping spree at Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. Milan is the perfect city for a weekend getaway because everything is easily accessible.
4. Budapest
I booked my first solo trip to Budapest at the end of last month but unfortunately, I had to cancel because something amazing came up. Luckily what came up ended being life changing for me so I was not too disappointed. However, this just means that I have to reschedule my trip at some point this year.
Budapest is the ideal place to whisk away to for a long weekend. It is very low key and not as fast-paced as some of the popular cities in Europe. Most of the historic buildings in the city are free to explore so it won’t put a huge dent in your pocket either. It gets better because Budapest is the perfect place for foodies too as the place is filled to capacity with food malls. Last but not least, the hotels and apartments in Budapest are very well priced and that is what appealed to me the most.
5. Rome
Italy is definitely one of my favourite cities in Europe so it should come at no surprise that Rome has made my list. I love Rome, I went last year and I had such an amazing time. Read about my trip here (When in Rome, do Shows). Although I spent 5 days out there, you could do spend the weekend and do just as much as me plus more.
I loved everything about Rome, Public transport, fresh Gelato, local food and the popular tourist attractions. I moved around so freely through the city and take in every detail of its beauty. Rome has so much to offer, it is impossible to visit and not come back with great things to say.
If none of my 5 picks tickled your fancy, check out some other amazing countries like Prague, Brussels, Berlin, Copenhagen and Norway. Contrary to popular belief, Europe has so much to offer but don’t just take my word for it. Book yourself a weekend getaway = and go see for yourself. These kinds of trips come in handy as they do not take up too much of your annual leave. Not to mention they can be very cost effective on your pockets.
