birthday

“Don’t regret another birthday, the good news is that you are alive and can celebrate it.” Catherine Pulsifer

I’m one of those people who loves their birthday. It’s by far my favourite day of the year. My birthday has always been an exciting time for me because I’m born 4 days after Christmas. So, from since I was a kid I’ve always looked forward to it and as I’ve aged not much has changed.

I believe it’s important to always celebrate turning a year older. Life is precious. So, if you get the opportunity to see a new year you must celebrate and give thanks.

These Are Some Unprecedented Times

However, with the way 2020 is going, it appears that birthday celebrations this year will probably look a little different. We have COVID-19 to thank for that because, by the way, things are going, it will probably be like this for a very long time.

Trying to plan anything these days is proving to be quite difficult. In the UK the government change the guidelines like a what app’s status on a daily basis. Most of the changes don’t seem to make sense. It’s quite clear that the government doesn’t get it either but they’re just hoping for the best. This however is having a major impact on people trying to plan ahead for special occasions like birthdays.

This month I should have been on a 5-star resort in Jamaica with my cousin Aaliyah celebrating her 25th birthday. Our trip that we planned back in 2019, unfortunately, had to be cancelled. Which meant all of the original birthday plans went up in smoke. We had to make alternative arrangments in order to celebrate.

I’ve listed 5 things that you can do to make a lockdown birthday special.

1. Make it Personal

Let’s face it nothing is ever going to compare to an all-inclusive birthday trip to Jamaica. But, a personalised birthday hamper basket filled with gifts sure does come pretty close. Last week we had the perfect girls night in together. We ordered in from a popular Caribbean restaurant in our local area. Watched a film, ate our treats, sipped on some Rosé and enjoyed some good ole girl talk.

Moon Pig sent us the following items:

  • A ballon – Seeing as my cousin will only turn 25 once birthday balloon just added more flare to the indoor festivities
  • Pink Fizz Treats Hamper – Which included tons of pink-themed treats, Nua Prosecco Rose, Simply Cornish Strawberry & Clotted Cream Shortbread, Prosecco Gummies, Bellini Fudge, Strawberry Cheesecake Popcorn and some Rosé.
  • Candles – Scented candles are always a good idea and they smelled fantastic.

MoonPig.com is the perfect place to create personalised cards and send brilliant gifts in just a few clicks. Nothing screams special than a personalised gift. It really helps to show a person what they mean to you. If you can’t think of anything to gift a loved I suggest checking them out for some inspiration.

2.Virtual Birthday Experiences

I recently just found out about these but you can book a virtual experience for a loved one’s birthday. These experiences include unique activities led by one-of-a-kind hosts – all without leaving your home. If you’re interested in booking one check out what Airbnb has to offer.

3. Intimate Birthday Celebration

Host a small and intimate gathering for someone’s birthday is always a good idea. Just make sure you keep numbers limited. Being around people that you love and cherish on your birthday is always a great idea. There are so many fun things that can be done to keep the birthday celebrant and their guests entertained.
